A quick and easy sandwich with buttery, golden bread, tender roast beef, and gooey cheddar cheese that delivers pure comfort food.

Ingredients

  • Thinly sliced deli-style roast beef
  • Sharp cheddar cheese
  • Sourdough, rye, or thick-cut white bread
  • Unsalted butter, softened
  • Mustard or horseradish sauce (optional)
  • Salt and pepper (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your skillet or griddle over medium heat.
  2. Spread softened butter evenly on one side of each slice of bread.
  3. Place one slice of bread, buttered-side down, on the griddle. Layer with cheddar cheese, roast beef, and another slice of bread, buttered-side up.
  4. Cook the sandwich for 3-4 minutes per side, pressing gently with the spatula to ensure even browning.
  5. Peek underneath to check for a golden crust.
  6. As the bread toasts, the cheese will begin to melt and hold everything together. If needed, cover the skillet lightly to help the cheese melt faster.
  7. Remove the sandwich from the skillet, let it cool for a minute, then slice in half and serve warm.

Notes

For best results, use fresh bread and flavorful roast beef. Buttering the bread ensures a golden crust. Experiment with flavors by adding caramelized onions or garlic powder to the butter.
