Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 slices white sandwich bread, crusts removed
  • 4 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 6 different fruit spreads or jams (e.g., strawberry, blueberry, mango, grape, kiwi, raspberry)
  • Food coloring (optional, a few drops)
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting
  • Honey or maple syrup, for drizzling (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare your workspace by laying out bread slices on a cutting board and carefully removing crusts (about 1/2 inch around).
  2. In small bowls, prepare fruit spreads; add food coloring if desired and stir well.
  3. Lightly butter one side of each bread slice using a spreading knife.
  4. Spread a thin, even layer (about 1 tablespoon) of different colored fruit spread on the unbuttered side of each slice.
  5. Cut each bread slice into 4 equal squares using a sharp knife or pizza cutter.
  6. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Place buttered side of each square down and toast for 2-3 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Flip squares and toast fruit spread side for about 30 seconds to warm.
  8. Arrange toasted squares on a platter in a colorful, interlocking jigsaw pattern.
  9. Dust with powdered sugar and drizzle with honey or maple syrup if desired. Serve immediately.

Notes

Use fresh, soft bread for best results. Avoid overloading fruit spread to prevent sogginess. Toast buttered side first for golden crunch. Medium heat is key to avoid burning. Work in batches to prevent overcrowding. Sharp knife or pizza cutter ensures clean cuts. For dairy-free, substitute butter with coconut oil. For gluten-free, use gluten-free bread gently to avoid crumbling. Leftovers keep up to 2 days refrigerated; reheat in toaster oven or skillet to maintain texture.
