This easy honey garlic butter glazed ham recipe delivers a tender, juicy ham with a shiny, sticky glaze perfect for holiday dinners and festive gatherings. The sweet-savory glaze caramelizes beautifully, making it a crowd-pleaser for all ages.

Ingredients

  • Bone-in ham (6-8 pounds; pre-cooked, spiral sliced)
  • Unsalted butter (1/2 cup or 115 grams, softened)
  • Honey (1/3 cup or 113 grams)
  • Garlic (4 cloves, minced)
  • Dijon mustard (2 tablespoons)
  • Apple cider vinegar (1 tablespoon)
  • Brown sugar (2 tablespoons)
  • Black pepper (1/2 teaspoon, freshly cracked)
  • Water (1/4 cup or 60 ml)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C).
  2. Score the ham by cutting shallow diagonal lines about 1/4 inch deep across the surface, then turn and repeat to create a diamond pattern.
  3. In a mixing bowl, whisk together 1/2 cup softened unsalted butter, 1/3 cup honey, 4 minced garlic cloves, 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard, 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar, 2 tablespoons brown sugar, 1/2 teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper, and 1/4 cup water until smooth and creamy.
  4. Place the ham flat side down on a roasting rack inside a roasting pan and tent loosely with aluminum foil.
  5. Bake the ham for about 1 1/2 hours, or until heated through (internal temperature should reach 140°F or 60°C), basting with the glaze every 20-25 minutes.
  6. In the last 10 minutes, remove the foil and brush the ham generously with glaze. Switch oven to broil on low and broil about 6 inches from heat for 5 minutes, watching closely to caramelize the glaze without burning.
  7. Remove the ham from the oven and let it rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing to allow juices to redistribute.

Notes

If the glaze thickens too much during baking, stir in a splash of water to loosen it before basting again. Use a meat thermometer to avoid overcooking. For dairy-free, substitute butter with coconut oil and honey with maple syrup. Broil carefully to avoid burning the glaze.
