This Cozy Amish Christmas Jam recipe captures the festive spirit with tart cranberries, sweet strawberries, and warm spices, perfect for spreading on toast or gifting to loved ones.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups cranberries (fresh or frozen)
  • 2 cups strawberries (fresh or frozen)
  • 4 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • 1/2 cup orange juice (freshly squeezed or bottled)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 packet powdered pectin
  • 1/2 cup water

Instructions

  1. Prepare your jars by washing them with hot, soapy water and letting them dry completely or sterilizing them in boiling water.
  2. In a large saucepan, combine cranberries, strawberries, orange zest, orange juice, water, and sugar.
  3. Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar dissolves and the berries begin to soften and burst (about 10 minutes).
  4. Reduce the heat to low and add the ground cinnamon and nutmeg, stirring to combine.
  5. Sprinkle the powdered pectin evenly over the mixture, stirring constantly to avoid clumps. Let the jam simmer for another 10-15 minutes until it thickens.
  6. Remove the saucepan from heat and let the jam cool slightly—it will continue to thicken as it cools.
  7. Carefully ladle the jam into your prepared jars, leaving about 1/4 inch of space at the top. Wipe the rims clean, and seal tightly.
  8. If storing long-term, process the jars in a boiling water bath for 10 minutes. Otherwise, refrigerate and enjoy within 2 weeks.

Notes

[‘If the jam seems too thick, stir in a splash of water or orange juice.’, ‘If it’s too thin, simmer a bit longer.’, ‘Drop a small spoonful of jam onto a cold plate to test thickness; if it firms up after a minute, it’s ready.’, ‘Customize spice levels by adding extra cinnamon or a pinch of cloves.’]
