A delicious mash-up of garlic bread and sloppy joes, topped with melted cheese for the ultimate comfort food experience.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf of French bread or Italian bread, sliced into thick pieces
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley or Italian seasoning (optional, for garnish)
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (or your favorite melting cheese)
  • 1 pound ground beef (or ground turkey for a leaner option)
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 small bell pepper, finely diced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 3/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or foil for easier cleanup.
  2. In a small bowl, mix the softened butter with garlic powder and parsley (if using). Stir until well combined.
  3. Spread the garlic butter generously over each slice of bread, covering the entire surface. Place the slices on the prepared baking sheet.
  4. Bake the garlic bread for 5-7 minutes, or until lightly golden and crispy. Remove from the oven but keep the oven preheated.
  5. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and bell pepper, and sauté for 3-4 minutes until softened.
  6. Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking it up into small crumbles with a spatula.
  7. Stir in the ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Let the mixture simmer for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened.
  8. Spoon the sloppy joe filling onto each slice of toasted garlic bread. Sprinkle a generous amount of shredded mozzarella on top.
  9. Return the assembled melts to the oven and bake for 5-7 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  10. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly. Serve warm.

Notes

[‘Take your time to toast the bread to a perfect golden brown for added crunch.’, ‘Use freshly shredded cheese for better melting.’, ‘Simmer the sloppy joe mixture longer if it seems runny.’, ‘Customize the seasoning to suit your taste.’, ‘Prepare the sloppy joe filling ahead of time for convenience.’]
