Bright, swirling rainbow drizzles over golden toast sticks create a fun, nostalgic snack perfect for kids’ parties, brunch, or anytime you want a cheerful pick-me-up.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 slices white or whole wheat sandwich bread, crusts removed (can use gluten-free bread)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (about 120 grams)
  • 2 tablespoons whole milk or any plant-based milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Assorted gel or liquid food coloring in red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple
  • Optional natural color alternatives: beet juice (red), turmeric (yellow), spinach juice (green), blueberry juice (blue)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Remove crusts from 6 slices of bread and slice each slice into 4 equal sticks, about 1-inch wide. Set aside.
  3. Spread a thin layer of softened butter evenly on one side of each stick.
  4. Arrange the sticks buttered side up on a parchment-lined baking sheet, spaced slightly apart.
  5. Bake for 10 minutes, then flip each toast stick carefully and bake an additional 5-7 minutes until both sides are golden and crisp.
  6. While the toast bakes, whisk together 1 cup powdered sugar, 2 tablespoons milk, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract until smooth. Adjust milk to get a pourable but not runny consistency.
  7. Divide the glaze evenly into 6 small bowls and add a few drops of each food coloring (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple). Stir until colors are vibrant.
  8. Once toast sticks are done and slightly cooled but still warm, drizzle each stick with the colorful glaze using spoons, squeeze bottles, or a zip bag.
  9. Allow the glaze to set for about 10 minutes. Refrigerate to speed up if desired.
  10. Serve immediately for best taste and texture.

Notes

Use gel food coloring for vibrant colors without watering down the glaze. Work with warm toast sticks for better glaze adherence. If glaze thickens, add a splash of milk to loosen. Avoid over-buttering to keep toast crisp. Squeeze bottles provide cleaner drizzle lines; spoons or zip bags work for a fun look. Store leftovers in airtight container at room temperature up to 24 hours; reheat in oven to crisp.
