Instructions

  1. Pour 9 cups Rice Chex cereal into a large mixing bowl and set aside.
  2. Place Butterfinger bars in a zip-top bag and crush with a rolling pin or heavy spoon until you have small chunks (reserve about 1/4 cup for topping).
  3. In a microwave-safe bowl, combine chocolate chips, peanut butter, and butter. Microwave in 30-second bursts, stirring after each, until smooth (1-2 minutes total). Add vanilla extract and salt (if using), then stir well.
  4. Fold in the crushed Butterfinger bars (except reserved topping) into the melted chocolate mixture and stir until evenly distributed.
  5. Pour the chocolate-Butterfinger mixture over the Rice Chex. Gently fold with a spatula until all cereal is coated.
  6. Divide the coated Chex into two large zip-top bags. Add half the powdered sugar to each bag, seal, and shake vigorously until all pieces are evenly dusted.
  7. Spread the Puppy Chow out on wax or parchment paper to cool and set. Sprinkle reserved Butterfinger bits on top.
