Ingredients

  • Black lava cheese or black wax cheddar, sliced
  • Brie or triple crème cheese (wedge or wheel)
  • Manchego or aged gouda cheese
  • Midnight blue cheese (optional)
  • Black pepper salami, thinly sliced
  • Prosciutto or smoked ham, rolled
  • Spicy black garlic sausage, sliced
  • Black grapes, seedless
  • Figs, fresh or dried
  • Golden cherry tomatoes or yellow bell pepper strips
  • Black olives (Kalamata or Castelvetrano)
  • Gold-dusted dried apricots (brush with edible gold powder)
  • Roasted almonds or cashews, lightly salted
  • Pistachios, shelled
  • Black sesame crackers or activated charcoal crackers
  • Golden crostini or baguette slices, toasted with olive oil
  • Honeycomb or golden honey
  • Black cherry preserves or fig jam
  • Whole grain mustard
  • Edible gold leaf (optional)
  • Dark chocolate truffles

Instructions

  1. Wipe down your serving board and dry completely. If using wood, rub with a bit of olive oil for a rich sheen.
  2. Slice black lava cheese and hard cheeses into thin slices or cubes (about 1/4 inch thick). Leave brie or triple crème whole or wedge-shaped. Roll prosciutto and slice salami thin.
  3. Place black cheese and brie as anchors at opposite ends of the board. Fan out golden manchego/gouda in the center for visual balance.
  4. Lay out salami and ham in gentle folds or rosettes near the cheese. Tuck black garlic sausage slices around the edges.
  5. Cluster black grapes and figs in small piles. Add golden tomatoes and bell pepper strips for brightness. Scatter olives and gold-dusted apricots throughout.
  6. Arrange crackers, crostini, and nuts in the empty spaces. Alternate black and gold colors for a striking effect.
  7. Place small bowls of honeycomb, jam, and mustard around the board. Drizzle honey over brie if desired.
  8. Dot the board with chocolate truffles and edible gold leaf. Add gold toothpicks for style.
  9. Step back and adjust for symmetry and color balance. Let cheeses come to room temperature (about 20 minutes) before serving for best flavor.

Notes

Let cheeses come to room temperature before serving for best flavor. Prep ingredients ahead but assemble the board just before serving to avoid soggy crackers. Use small bowls for sticky condiments. Customize with vegan cheeses, gluten-free crackers, or seasonal fruits. Edible gold leaf adds a luxe touch but is optional.
