I’m Ava, Your Kitchen Friend

Welcome to my kitchen! Pull up a chair, grab a cup of coffee, and let me tell you my story… ๐Ÿงก

Where It All Began

Growing up in a small Alabama town, my grandma’s kitchen was the heart of everything. The smell of buttermilk biscuits baking at 6 AM, the sound of bacon sizzling on Sunday mornings, and the warmth of her stories shared over peach cobbler โ€“ those moments shaped who I am today.

Grandma Ruby didn’t measure anything. A “pinch of this” and a “handful of that” somehow turned into the most incredible meals I’ve ever tasted. She taught me that cooking isn’t about perfection โ€“ it’s about love, tradition, and bringing people together.

That’s the magic I want to share with you here โ€“ recipes that aren’t fussy, ingredients you can find at any grocery store, and flavors that’ll make your family ask for seconds (and thirds!).

My Cooking Journey

From burnt cookies to cookbook dreams โ€“ here’s how I got here

CHILDHOOD โ€ข 1996s

Grandma Ruby’s Kitchen Helper

Every Saturday morning, I’d stand on a step stool next to Grandma, learning to make her famous cinnamon rolls. Sure, I got more flour on the floor than in the bowl, but she never minded. Those moments sparked a lifelong love affair with food.

COLLEGE YEARS โ€ข 2015

The Burnt Cookie Incident

Living in a tiny dorm room with nothing but a hot plate and a dream, I decided to bake cookies for my roommates. Let’s just say the smoke alarm disagreed with my approach. But instead of giving up, I became obsessed with mastering baking โ€“ one slightly-less-burnt batch at a time!

MARRIED LIFE โ€ข 2021

Cooking for Two (Then Three… Then Four!)

Marriage taught me that not everyone loves Brussels sprouts as much as I do (shocking, right?). Then came kids, and suddenly I was cooking for the world’s toughest critics. That’s when I really learned to make food that’s both nutritious AND kid-approved โ€“ no easy feat!

Sharing the Love

After years of friends begging me for recipes (and several nudges from my husband), I finally started this blog. What began as a simple hobby has grown into a beautiful community of home cooks who, like me, believe that good food and great memories go hand in hand.

My Cooking Approach

These are the principles that guide every recipe I share

๐Ÿ’

Simple & Doable

No fancy equipment or hard-to-find ingredients. Just real food that real people can actually make.

๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ

Family-Tested

Every recipe here has been served at my own dinner table. If it doesn’t pass the family test, it doesn’t make the blog!

๐ŸŽ‰

Made with Joy

Cooking should be fun, not stressful. Let’s laugh at the messes and celebrate the victories together!

Life Outside the Kitchen

When I’m not covered in flour, here’s what you’ll find me doing…

๐Ÿก Family First: My husband Jake and our two kids (Emma, 6, and Noah, 4) are my favorite taste testers. Though they’re still working on appreciating kale…

๐Ÿ“š Book Lover: Give me a cozy mystery and a cup of tea, and I’m in heaven. Bonus points if there’s a recipe in the story!

๐ŸŒป Garden Enthusiast: My vegetable garden is my happy place. There’s nothing like cooking with tomatoes you grew yourself!

โ˜• Coffee Addict: Let’s be real โ€“ I run on coffee and the smell of something delicious baking in the oven.

Let’s Stay Connected!

I’d love to hear from you! Whether you have a question, recipe suggestion, or just want to say hi โ€“ I read every single message and do my best to respond to all of them. ๐Ÿงก
